This course provides technical information for personnel engaged in land management and grounds maintenance. It consolidates and modernizes criteria in natural resources management and maintenance courses. Properly applied, the principles and practices prescribed in this course will supplement ongoing management efforts, conserve the natural resources, maintain and improve the appearance of lands.
This course deals with frequent problems regarding the conservation and management of natural resources under Department of Defense jurisdiction, world wide. Installations and facilities outside United States and its possessions will coordinate management and maintenance activities with the host country. The course also provides soil, climate and cultural information relating to land management and grounds maintenance. It provides plant adaptability lists for the major plant growth regions of continental US. It discusses techniques for natural resources management under a wide range of conditions, including measures for wind and water erosion control, vegetative insect and disease control, weed control and drainage improvement. Included are: bibliography; relevant references, common and scientific names of plants adaptable to Department of Defense lands; and pertinent tables and figures.
